EXPERIENCE A THRIVING LOCAL CULTURE

Meyrueis-Camping-Via-Natura-La-Cascade.jpg

Welcome to a beautiful part of the Lozère, a land of wilderness and open spaces in the heart of the Cévennes National Park. Our culture has been forged over millennia through our relationship with the land, our legends and periods of religious conflict; it can be experienced today through our menhirs and dolmens, our churches and temples and our characteristic farmsteads.

Don’t miss : The castle of Roquedols, the restored farmstead at ‘la ferme caussenarde d’autrefois’, the priory of Saint Jean des Balmes, the menhirs and dolmens of the Méjean plateau.

Easily accessible : the castle of Peyrelade

A RICH NATURAL HERITAGE

Gypaete-Camping-Via-Natura-La-Cascade.jpg

We have an exceptional ecological heritage with a rich biodiversity and fascinating natural history. You can hunt vultures with your camera (!), admire orchids in spring and watch birds and butterflies, and … because there is little light pollution… you can dream under a starry sky. This wild area was chosen for the reintroduction of the bearded vulture.

Don’t miss : the House of Vultures, the ‘abyme de Bramabiau’, the semi-wild Prejwalski’s horses, the Mont Aigoual Observatory

Easily accessible : the ‘chaos of Montpellier le Vieux’, the Dourbie Gorge, the Tapoul Gorge

PASTURALISM AT THE HEART OF OUR REGION

Brebis-Camping-Via-Natura-La-Cascade.jpg

It is a land with an old pastoral tradition and farming is still an important activity in the Meyrueis region today. The reason for its designation as a World Heritage Site is because the land is typical of « the cultural landscape of Mediterranean agro-pasturalism ». You can sample local produce such as the sweet onion of the Cévennes, chestnuts from our forests , Pélardon and other cheeses made from sheep’s milk or just stroll amongst the flocks.

Don’t miss : cheese production at Hyelzas, the ‘Moulin de la Borie’, ‘lavognes’ the traditional circular stock watering ponds of the region

Easily accessible : the ‘moulin du Cénaret’, the castle of Florac that houses Cévennes National Park headquarters.
